You know, it's funny. Most people who come upon Interstate think it's actually the font used on US freeway/highway signs, when it's not. It's based on that font, but it's not the same one. Interstate is actually a much cleaner and more well-done font than what this country actually uses, which is a custom font called Freeway.
Actually, the custom font used on US road signs doesn't really have a concise name, but it's known as the FHWA series -- series B, C, D, E, E(M), and F actually; they are essentially a gradation of widths.
And in many places, new signs use a newer custom font, called Clearview. Clearview comes in six widths, and two weights: a thinner weight for light text on a dark background, and a thicker weight for dark text on a light background. The thicker variant has not yet been officially approved by the Federal Highway Administration, but some jurisdictions use it anyway.
Free (for non-commercial use) versions of all of these official fonts can be found at triskele.com, for those geeky enough to imitate real signs.

Anyway, nice work.
